Baby Zone is a Star of Christmas 2020

 

After closing their doors in March 2020, Baby Zone endeavoured to continue to support parents with babies through lockdown, by regularly walking around Station Road Gardens, and through their Facebook page and groups. This was headed up by Emma (accompanied by her boys). They continued to meet (in the hot sun and pouring rain) until they could find a way to safely meet inside. 

Just before the second lockdown, they were allowed to reopen the doors to families again (and then to continue through as an essential support group). 

Maintaining a 2 metre distance, wearing masks and keeping the room ventilated have been a hard change for the team - the families don't know any different as most of the babies were born in lockdown (or just before). The team love to smile at babies, give supportive cuddles and serve refreshments all of which are now not allowed. Instead there is extra cleaning of the room and resources, and due to capacity they are running three sessions a week rather than just one. There is also the matter of sudden changes due to team isolation/ ill health. 

The team have risen to the challenge, and continue to welcome and support the families under these circumstances. 

Baby Zone's hard work is making such a difference:

  • to the families who come - and are so glad to have somewhere to go for a friendly chat, and to share their stories and experiences
  • to the team - who can see the importance of the group to the families (and to each other)
  • to the wider community and church

This is why they are stars in our community!

Billingshurst Primary School staff are Stars of Christmas 2020!

After what has been a very difficult year for everyone, we think Billingshurst Primary School staff (and children) are stars! The school has needed to find new ways of running to keep staff, children and the community safe this year. They've had to adapt to remote learning, as well as changing the way they teach in class. They've had to be creative and flexible to ensure every child has the best opportunity to learn and feel safe. On top of all this they are having to deal with the emotional and mental impact 2020 has had on the children (as well as the staff and families). Every single staff member has worked tirelessly, and in very challenging circumstances, to make the experience at school as normal as possible for all the children. Both the staff and children have all shown such resilience and dedication this year. Vicar David's Stars of Christmas 2020 are ...

…the children at St. Mary’s Church! Through the long months of lockdown and beyond, their response to the Explorers videos has been a constant source of encouragement and hope to me. Text messages, pictures of artwork and video clips have come rolling into the Vicarage hub, demonstrating time and again that children often have the most profound insights into the ways of God and that we as adults have a lot to learn from them.
