Starting tomorrow, we've got two exciting things happening:

Firstly, we'll be sharing your nominations for Stars of Christmas 2020.

Each day we'll be sharing your stories about people who make Christmas special - especially this year. 

If you haven't sent your nomination in, don't worry there is still time.  

Here's what we'd like you to do:

  1. Create a star decoration for us to hang in the church porch.
    Please bring to the church office by 14th December    . 
  2. Nominate a "Star of Christmas" and tell us why you thought of them. It could be:
    • someone you know (my mum makes Christmas really special by ...),
    • someone from the community (my teacher is a star because ...),
    • or even someone famous (Santa is a star of Christmas because...)
    • It might be one of us (a nativity character)!  
  3. Take a photo of your star decoration with your nominated “Star of Christmas.”
    If you can't photograph the actual person (they may not want to be on our blog) please draw a picture
    of them, or take your star to a place where they are, or use something that will remind us all of them.
    For example, if your Star of Christmas is a teacher, you could photograph your star decoration outside
    the school, or with your school logo/uniform.      
  4. Send us your photo and tell us about your Star of Christmas posada@stmarysbillingshurst.org.
    We will blog these to tell this year's story.
    (Please check everyone in the photograph is happy to be on the internet,
    and if they are under 18 please check if their parents are happy with this too.)

Secondly, can you find our Posada Family characters?  

They are hiding around the village. There are 8 to find, at different locations. 

This is part of Light up Billingshurst which has been organised by local residents to share Christmas joy this year.  (The characters are mostly in windows, so you can stay safe and spot them from outside, but please do give a freindly wave to their hosts if you see them.) 

There are prizes to be won so make a note of who you find, and where! Email us and we'll send you an entry form or details of where to collect one around the village. We might even give you a few clues to help.

Billingshurst Primary School staff are Stars of Christmas 2020!

After what has been a very difficult year for everyone, we think Billingshurst Primary School staff (and children) are stars! The school has needed to find new ways of running to keep staff, children and the community safe this year. They've had to adapt to remote learning, as well as changing the way they teach in class. They've had to be creative and flexible to ensure every child has the best opportunity to learn and feel safe. On top of all this they are having to deal with the emotional and mental impact 2020 has had on the children (as well as the staff and families). Every single staff member has worked tirelessly, and in very challenging circumstances, to make the experience at school as normal as possible for all the children. Both the staff and children have all shown such resilience and dedication this year. Vicar David's Stars of Christmas 2020 are ...

…the children at St. Mary’s Church! Through the long months of lockdown and beyond, their response to the Explorers videos has been a constant source of encouragement and hope to me. Text messages, pictures of artwork and video clips have come rolling into the Vicarage hub, demonstrating time and again that children often have the most profound insights into the ways of God and that we as adults have a lot to learn from them.
